After a long sabbatical from the acting profession Mel Gibson makes his comeback with the latest movie the Edge of Darkness. He takes on a new role which is of a father and a detective who is struck by grief by his daughter’s untimely death. He makes it his mission to find out who left his daughter dead on the doorsteps of his home and bring them to justice.
Initially, Mel Gibson who plays the role of Detective Thomas Craven, believes that his daughter a victim of his work and someone killed her instead of him. But soon he starts his investigation to find out that he didn’t know much about his daughter. He soon finds out that his daughter could have had knowledge of a major corporate secret which she was about to disclose and was silenced before she could blow the whistle.
The movie builds up really well in the first half especially by Mel Gibson’s character. The other important characters in the movie are that of CEO Jack Bennett whose role is played by Danny Huston and Darius Jedburg whose role is played by Ray Winstone who is a secret government employee who specializes in getting rid of the evidence.
The only problem with this movie is that it falls apart in the second half as the action scenes sometimes are senseless and the ‘surprise’ bad guy is very predictable.
However, if you are a Mel Gibson fan then you will still enjoy this movie, for the rest, this movie is definitely worth one watch.
